Ian McIntosh
Freeskier, TGR Team Member
24-year-old Ian McIntosh grew up ski racing in Invermere, British Columbia, only to quit racing by age 13 to head down a different slope. If his lack of motivation in skiing was fueled by a lack of excitement, Ian certainly chose the right path when he began skiing off cliffs and getting as much air as possible off every mountain turn. At age 19, after deciding that winter should never end, Ian sold his truck and moved to New Zealand. There, he entered his first ski contest, the Rip Curl Heli Challenge. Since placing fifth in that event, only more success has followed, including a first place in the North American Freeskiing Tour in 2004. Ian says it's not the one big air that he looks for in a jump, unlike ski BASE jumpers such as Erik Roner and Matt Combs; it's the whole experience. He likes to ski the entire mountain, top to bottom, hitting every turn and getting air around every corner. His unique style has landed him roles in numerous ski films, including Teton Gravity Research's 2006 film Anomoly
