Kim developed his hockey skills in Norway's Junior National Hockey program, then starred at UMass Lowell before making the leap to the Central Hockey League, where he played for the Wichita Thunder and Odessa Jackalopes. He is currently the general manager and lead instructor at Micro Ice Hockey Center in North Andover, MA.
